Ringette Alberta Tournament Allocation Changes

Ringette Alberta is initiating a new centralized process for tournament allocation within Alberta for the 2026-2027 season.

Why? In hopes of achieving a fair distribution of tournaments to all teams in the province, since tournaments are so much fun for everyone!

Who? All U10-U19 teams will be required to complete a team preferences form to indicate which tournaments the team is interested in attending. At this time Active Start teams will continue to apply to tournaments and are not included in the new allocation process. Out of province teams are also not included and are asked to contact tournament organizers directly.

When? Forms will be sent to coaches at team formation.
U10 teams must submit by September 25, 2026
U12-U19 teams must submit by September 17, 2026
Allocation will be communicated to associations and they will send out communication to teams who are allocated to their tournament. Teams are expected to provide payment within one week to secure their spot in the tournament.

What about NW Rumble? Do NW teams need to select this as a preference? No, as our home tournament NW teams in a division included in Rumble are host teams and will be automatically included in the tournament.

What about Esso Golden Ring? All Calgary teams are considered home teams for this tournament and do not need to select this as a preference.

What are teams allowed to specify on the form?
Teams are asked to specify how many tournaments in total they want.
How many in the local (within 100kms) and away (greater than 100 kms) categories separately.
Teams will be able to indicate “YES/NO” selection which tournaments they are interested in attending.

Can a team specify how many tournaments in session 1 and 2? No, teams must take this into account when submitting their preferences.

What if my team changes their mind and decides not to participate in the tournament they selected? Your team is obligated to participate in the tournaments they were selected for. Just like prior seasons, your team may lose their registration fee unless another team is found.

Will I be selected for all of the tournaments that I say Yes to? You may be selected for all of the tournaments where your team selects “yes” up to the maximum number your team selected.

What if I missed the deadline to submit our team’s tournament selections? You may not be able to participate in any tournaments unless a tournament has a spot open.

What if my team is advanced or retreated for session 2? This is an issue in the prior application format and, unfortunately, may not be fixed for the upcoming season. We will do our best to try and trade teams in divisions or tournaments but there are no guarantees. Your team will still be required to participate in the tournament you were selected for unless a replacement team can be found.
